Abstract

Qualitative research among doctoral students has become popular over the past decade. This methodological reflection presents a step-by-step account of the application of Reflective Thematic Analysis (RTA), as developed by Braun and Clarke, within a PhD study exploring the lived experiences of postnatal mothers regarding postnatal care. Reflective Thematic Analysis by Braun & Clarke was used to analyse the rich qualitative data from the original research. This paper outlines the methodological challenges and lessons learned in blending phenomenological enquiry with thematic analysis, following Braun & Clarke’s six-phase thematic analysis. This reflection provides transparent practical insights for novice researchers and student nurses to support qualitative data analysis using Braun & Clarke’s framework.
