Abstract
Introduction
Psychological and sociocognitive behavior changes will occur during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially concerning students’ academic activities, which might impact one's health and well-being. As a result of this, it could result in dysfunctional behaviors and unhealthy lifestyles, which may indicate a shift in well-being that calls for quick attention and intervention.
Methods
A descriptive survey design was adopted for the present study to identify the coping strategies adopted by nursing students during COVID-19. The study was conducted among 60 fourth-year B.Sc. Nursing students using the purposive sampling technique. The data was collected using structured questionnaires on coping strategies adopted by nursing students through Google Forms. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. The analysis was done according to the objectives by using SPSS version 16.0.
Results
The study included 42(78%) students in the 19-21 age group, and 48(80%) were females. To relieve stress, most of the students, 56 (93.3%) were interacting with friends, 54 (90%) felt that discussing coping strategies with parents helped them to overcome worries, and 54 (90%) were watching a movie as a coping strategy. Only a few students, 6 (10%), were consuming alcohol, and 6 (10%) of them were smoking cigarettes as a maladaptive coping strategy. Most students, 57(95%), reported demonstrating good coping strategies, and only 3 (5%) had poor coping strategies.
Conclusion
The present study helped assess nursing students' coping strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study concludes that there is a need to spread awareness regarding coping strategies and adopt good ones, which can help lower the stress of academics during the pandemic.
