Introduction:
The postnatal period is a time of change and adjustment for mothers. It can be both blissful and stressful. Unfortunately, postnatal healthcare support is often neglected. Thus, mothers need good support systems to navigate this transition smoothly.
Objectives:
- To assess the maternal perceived quality of life among postnatal mothers.
- To determine the association of quality of life among postnatal mothers with selected demographic variables.
Method:
The study used a descriptive design. A quantitative research approach is used to assess the maternal perceived quality of life among postnatal mothers in a selected hospital, Mangalore. The study sample consists of 76 postnatal mothers. Maternal Postpartum Quality of Life tool was used to assess the perceived QOL among postnatal mothers. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results:
The analysis's findings indicated that about 80% of postnatal mothers have a monthly income between 10000 and 5000 rupees. Out of all the postnatal mothers, 5.3% reported neither satisfied nor dissatisfied with their Quality of Life. 72.4% of postnatal mothers reported being satisfied with their Quality of Life. Finally, 22.4% of postnatal mothers reported being very satisfied with their Quality of Life. The overall mean percentage of Quality of life is 79.1%.
Conclusion:
Most postnatal mothers in the study were aged 26-30 and in the 5–6-week post-birth period. The majority reported a satisfactory quality of life. The study found no link between demographic factors and postnatal QOL.
