Perception of Nursing Care Among Patients and Nurses in Neuro Units of Selected Settings in Chennai.

Abstract
Introduction: Nurses are the health experts because they are caregivers, advocates, and educators. Patient is the Centre of nursing practice. Nurses provide care to patients from admission till discharge and gives more time to patients and their families as compared to other health care workers. This is the reason that nurses influence the patient perception about hospital care at most. Objective: The aim of this study was to Assessment of perception on nursing care provided among patients and nurses in neuro units of selected settings, Chennai. Methods: A quantitative research approach with a descriptive cross-sectional design was adopted for the study. Data was collected using the interview method for patients and the self-reporting method for nurses. A non-probability convenience sampling technique was employed to select the participants, comprising a total sample size of 100, which included 50 patients and 50 nurses. Demographic and clinical data were gathered through semi-structured items, while the level of perception on nursing care provided was assessed using a 4-point rating scale. Results: Comparison of mean scores revealed a statistically significant difference between the perception of patients and nurses on nursing care provided at 1% level of significance. Conclusion: The study findings gave an insight to the investigator about the perception of patients and nurses on nursing care provided in neuro units. Hence, the study concludes that it is necessary to identify innovative approaches to resolve this lack of homogeneity and provide comprehensive and need based care for patients with neurological disorders.
