Abstract

Introduction: The necklace method is a contemporary natural family planning approach that empowers women by enhancing accessibility, addressing knowledge deficiencies, and assisting couples in effectively planning and spacing their pregnancies. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured teaching program on the knowledge of the necklace method as a natural family planning method among female students. Methods: A quantitative research design with a quasi-experimental approach, utilising a one-group pre- and post-test format, was employed. The study involved 60 female students from selected degree colleges in Moodbidri. Participants were chosen using a probability stratified random sampling technique. Data was collected through an interview schedule with semi-structured items to gather demographic information, along with a structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge of the students. Results: The findings indicated that the average pre-test knowledge score for female students was 30.72%, while the average post-test score rose to 84.67%. The difference between the mean pre-test and post-test scores was statistically significant (t (59) = 28.66, table value t (59) = 1.67, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results demonstrated that the structured teaching program effectively enhanced the knowledge of female students regarding the necklace method.
