Abstract
Background: Menarche brings out significant change in each girl’s life. Coping with the discomforts and adopting the body changes becomes a biggest challenge for every teen. Cost effective non pharmacological interventions will help to bring about improvement in the general wellbeing and quality of life in each adolescents life.
Objective: This review aims to determine the different menstrual interventions adopted by adolescent girls residing in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC’s). The Review question will be :What interventions are currently available, and how do they contribute in promoting menstrual health among adolescents from LMICs
Methods: This review will include randomized controlled trials, non randomized controlled trials and cohort studies focusing on menstrual health interventions adopted by adolescents from LMIC’s. The search will be conducted in CINAHL via EBSCO host, MEDLINE via PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and ProQuest Medical Library. Studies published in English, All available studies till September 2024 will be included. Data Extraction and quality appraisal will be conducted independently two review authors. The quality of the included studies will be assessed using JBI checklist. A Meta Analysis will be carried out based on the suitability of the data.
Results: Study methodology was followed in accordance with the protocol with six databases and clinical registry search by two independent reviewers. Presently the full text screening stage is in progress, expected to publish the results in the first quarter of 2025
Conclusions: The evidence synthesized from this systematic review will help guide future research, support in the development of guidelines which will focus on overall wellbeing of an adolescent during her menstrual periods
