Abstract

Over the past decades, antimicrobial resistance has emerged as a major public health crisis. Disease caused by microbes has become a serious issue and even caused death in healthy children and adults. Since microorganisms are found everywhere like in soil, air, water etc., the control of spreading infectious disease has become a great challenge . Microbial infections has great impact in many areas, such as in hospital surfaces, medical devices, drugs and surgery equipment, dental restoration, textiles, packaging and storage of food, health care products, domestic appliances, aeronautical, water purification systems etc. However, the current interest in research area of polymer science lacks the development of synthesizing the polymers with antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial polymers have certain benefits over low molecular weight active agents because they are more stable against dissolution, volatilization and diffusion to the surface of the material to be protected. The development of antimicrobial polymers and their coating studies has been one of the most active and important research areas in recent years.
