Abstract
Meningitis causes significant morbidity and mortality in paediatrics and globally account for 180,000 deaths each year. In India, meningitis is the leading cause of mortality in children below five years of age and accounts to 22% of death. Current work is aimed to design a real time-PCR based method to identify and characterize the meningitis pathogens and provide an early, rapid and accurate diagnosis of meningitis as it carries high rate of mortality, especially with delay in diagnosis. In addition, our group is working on diabetic foot infection pathogens using molecular genotyping approaches of MLST, MLVA and ribosomal sequencing.
