Abstract

As the population of world increases at an unprecedented rate so does their basic need of a shelter. This would lead to an acute shortage of land for everyone to fit in and skyscrapers help us overcome this problem very efficiently. The main reason that people build skyscrapers is because they are very convenient. They serve to fit a lot of floor space in a comparatively small amount of ground surface because of their immense height. This project deals with the construction techniques and methodology required to overcome the difficulties faced during the construction of skyscrapers. It also provides data about the construction costs, delays and other factors that are usually accompanied by a project of such a large scale. Rate analysis of major construction activities concreting, waterproofing, shuttering and others are calculated on per m3 basis which help us get an idea about the project budget calculations. The importance of procurement of basic raw materials of good quality and inexpensive is also highlighted. Various causes of delay in construction activities and its effect on the project terms and contacts as well as the increase in budget is discussed. Maintaining the project on schedule is one of the most difficult task for an on field engineer. The basic requirement and the provisions for maintaining a labour colony within the site as laid down by the government is discussed. The minimal facilities to be provided for healthy living and working conditions of the labour class must be met by any project.
