Abstract

Background: Papillary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare histologic variant of laryngeal carcinoma, often presenting as exophytic or papilloma-like lesions and occasionally occurring in patients without traditional risk factors. Awareness of this variant is essential to ensure timely diagnosis and appropriate management.

Case Report: We describe an unusual presentation of a vocal-cord lesion in a middle-aged patient, initially appearing benign but ultimately diagnosed as papillary SCC upon histopathological examination.

Conclusion: Recognition of rare histologic variants, such as papillary SCC, is crucial for accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment planning. Early identification and complete excision with careful follow-up may optimize outcomes in this uncommon entity.
