Valorization of Waste Sludge

Abstract

The amount of sludge produced in wastewater treatment plants is enormous. This sludge contains undesirable metals and other contaminants, and its disposal is expensive. Several attempts are being made towards valorization of this sludge, by using it in building and construction materials, reuse as adsorbent in water and wastewater treatment, as a coagulant and recovery of metals. This paper looks into some of the attempts at valorization of sludge.
