Abstract

Rhinocerebral mucormycosis, also called zygomycosis, is an uncommon disease triggered by filamentous fungi that affect the nasal passages, paranasal sinuses, middle ear, and brain. It primarily affects immunocompromised individuals, such as those with diabetes and those with COVID-19. The prevalence of this disease in the US is estimated to be 1.7 cases per one million population to 140 per one million in India. This case report is of a 63-year-old male with a complaint of reduced hearing in his right ear for 2 months and was a known case of rhinocerebral mucormycosis. This study aims to examine the audiological characteristics and pathophysiology of rhinocerebral mucormycosis, emphasizing the significance of audiological assessment in its diagnosis and management.
