Abstract

Increasingly, countries are coming up with policies to cope with a growing ageing population. In some countries, policies are in place and the State is constantly coming up with newer mechanisms to cope with their country’s older population. At the same time, some countries such as India are only beginning to reckon with the rise of an ageing population. To better understand the many dimensions of ageing and care frameworks, the present paper, and the articles in the associated forum called “Later-life Care and Ageing Practices,” provide perspectives on India, the USA, and China. Together, the articles highlight how the phenomenon of ageing is being dealt with at a global level and how state policies, value systems, traditional beliefs, and sociodemographic factors, such as gender and race, interact with the natural process of growing older.
