Abstract
Study Background: The study investigates how cognitive-behavioral motivation affects student engagement, building on the self-determination (SDT) and engagement (JD-R) theories.
Research Goals and Hypotheses: The goal is to examine the influence of cognitive-behavioral motivation on engagement among undergraduate and graduate students. The hypothesis is that motivation significantly affects engagement, with both adaptive and maladaptive behaviors playing a role.
Methodological Approach: The study utilized structural equation modeling (SEM) on data from 693 students, measuring positive and negative motivation components.
Results and Discoveries: Adaptive cognition and behavior were positively related to engagement, while maladaptive components had a negative impact. The study provided insights into enhancing student engagement through motivation.
