Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the toxicity of Sivanar Vembu Khuzhi Thailam (SVKT), in rats in accordance with (OECD) test guideline 408. Group 1 was control. Groups 2 - 4 received SVKT orally daily at three doses for 90 days. The satellite group (group 5) received highest dose of SVKT for 90 days and were followed up for additional 28 days. Body and relative organ weight were recorded, histopathology, hematological and biochemical analysis was done. There was no significant difference between SVKT and control group with respect to weight, histopathology and biochemical parameters except direct bilirubin levels. The alterations in total and differential WBC count in SVKT group were within normal range.
