Abstract

Study Background

this study focuses on examining the relationship between knowledge management (KM) enabler strategies and their impact on KM effectiveness and innovative ability in Indian manufacturing firms.

Research Goals and Hypotheses

This paper evaluates employee perceptions of the influence of knowledge management (KM) enabler strategies on KM effectiveness and innovative ability in Indian manufacturing firms.

Methodological Approach

The study starts with a literature discussion, leading to the development of a conceptual model using the interpretive structural modelling (ISM) technique involving the three enabler strategies, viz., people, process, and technology, on the firm's innovative ability.

Results and Discoveries

Research hypotheses are formulated, and responses are collected from the employees from 32 manufacturing firms and are analysed. The findings reveal the existent issues in the implementation. It highlights the presence of a vast preach-practice gap in the manufacturing sector. This research would enable the practitioners to understand the lacunae in the development of sustainable innovation strategies by leveraging KM at their workplace.

  1. It was observed that people enabler strategies had significance on knowledge creation and application process. Process enabler strategies had an influence on all the processes of KM. Whereas, technology enabler strategies had a significant influence on knowledge acquisition effectiveness.
  2. The effectiveness of knowledge application had a big impact on the company’s innovative ability in comparison to knowledge creation and acquisition. This research highlights the central voids present in the application of KM to promote innovation in Indian manufacturing.
