Abstract: Psoriasis is a challenging chronic inflammatory autoimmune skin disorder influenced by genetic, environmental, and immune factors. This project focuses on dehydrozingerone (DHZ), a structural half-analogue of curcumin known for its antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties. The research explores DHZ's potential to block TNF-alpha, a cytokine implicated in psoriasis. Using an imiquimod-induced psoriasis model in mice, the team demonstrated that DHZ significantly reduces scaling, suggesting its promise as an effective treatment option.
Under the guidance of Ph.D. student Gangadhar Hari and teacher mentors Rekha R Shenoy, Karkala Sreedhara Ranganath Pai, and Krishnadas Nandakumar, the BPharm students worked collaboratively, enhancing their team-building skills and gaining invaluable research experience. This project is a classic example of how a young workforce can embark on a fruitful academic journey when adequately nurtured and mentored. It contributes to our understanding of potential psoriasis treatments and highlights the importance of mentorship and teamwork in scientific endeavors.
Congratulations to the entire team for their dedication and for making a meaningful impact in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
